Big Stone Therapies sponsors two mission trips annually to San Lucas Toliman!
The goal of the mission trip is to provide therapy services to the men, women, and children in the San Lucas Toliman area who have very limited access to healthcare. It may include educating a patient with techniques to manage arthritic pain, fitting a patient for a wheelchair or educating parents on techniques they can use every day to help their child grow and progress. Therapists who commit to this humbling journey offer their knowledge and expertise but also have the opportunity to learn from the great people and to experience the culture of San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala thru:
- Touring and learning the history of the mission projects such as the hospital and college
- Visiting the Mission’s Cafe Juan Ana Coffee facility and explore coffee growing, processing, roasting, and sample some of the world’s best coffee
- Touring the Women’s Center and experience a “day in the life of a Guatemalan” learn how to make tortillas, wash clothes by hand, and carry firewood
- Hiking up the skirts of Volcan Atitlan to see the sun rise thru Volcanoes Fuego and Acatenango
