Occupational Health Services

BIG Solutions for Safer, Healthier Workplaces

Big Stone Therapies offers a customizable Onsite Occupational Health Program designed to meet the unique needs of your business. Our program focuses on injury prevention, employee health, and improving workplace ergonomics, all while ensuring your workforce remains engaged and productive. We work directly with companies to provide the support necessary to reduce work-related injuries and costs.

What We Offer:

Our comprehensive Occupational Health Program is designed to fit your company’s needs and includes the following core services:

Identification of Ergonomic Concerns: Our team conducts in-depth observations of employees to identify potential ergonomic risks and inefficiencies in the workplace. By addressing these concerns early, we help prevent injuries and improve overall workplace comfort and productivity.

Educational Sessions: We provide tailored educational sessions that teach employees about the risks of injury and how to mitigate them by working smarter, not harder. These sessions focus on safe working practices, injury prevention, and effective ergonomics.

Early Intervention: When an employee experiences discomfort or musculoskeletal pain, our early intervention strategy includes first aid screenings. This reduces the likelihood of more serious injuries, helps employees stay at work, and minimizes the need for costly medical treatments.

Pre-Work Screens

The Pre-Work Screen is a physical exam conducted after a job offer, assessing whether the candidate can meet the job’s specific physical demands. These demands, determined through the Functional Job Description, are the most challenging physical aspects of the role.

Fitness for Duty

Similar to a PWS, the Fitness for Duty Exam (or Return to Work screen) ensures an employee is physically able to safely resume their job after an absence. The therapist assesses the employee’s endurance and functional capacity, often focusing on areas related to any previous injuries.

Ergonomic Assessment

During ergonomic workstation evaluations, our trained staff observe employees performing their job-related tasks at their workstations. We adjust equipment and work settings as needed and provide additional recommendations based on these observations. Ergonomic evaluations help identify stressors that contribute to overuse injuries in employees and guide us in recommending ways to minimize or eliminate these risks. We tailor the work environment to suit the worker.

Fit Back & Neck

These educational sessions teach employees and employers how to work more efficiently. The training focuses on proper lifting techniques, muscle engagement, and hands-on instruction for safely handling repetitive and physically demanding tasks.

First Aide

Our First Aid Training prepares employees to respond effectively to a variety of medical emergencies, from minor injuries to more serious situations. Through this training, employees learn to manage cuts, burns, sprains, and other workplace incidents. They gain the skills needed to provide immediate care until medical professionals arrive, contributing to a safer workplace.

Functional Capacity Evaluations

The FCE is a standardized assessment for employees who have reached Maximum Medical Improvement but are not yet ready to return to their previous roles. The FCE measures a variety of work-related capabilities, including maximum safe lifting, hand coordination, and tolerance for different postures, walking, and climbing. It can be customized to align with the employee’s current job requirements, and the results can assist with job matching within the company if the original position is no longer viable.

Work Conditioning

Our Work Conditioning program is a structured, goal-oriented rehabilitation program designed to help employees regain the physical strength and endurance needed to return to work. Through targeted exercises and functional activities tailored to job-specific demands, employees progressively build their tolerance and capacity for work-related tasks. Work Conditioning supports a safe and efficient transition back to full-duty work, reducing the risk of re-injury.

CPR/AED Training

Our CPR and AED Training equips employees with life-saving skills for responding to cardiac and breathing emergencies. This hands-on training covers the basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Employees learn how to assess a situation, perform CPR, and use an AED confidently, fostering a prepared and safer work environment.
